First person I know who told me about expressed breast milk for baby eye
infections was my father, still going strong at 72, who said that his
mother used it all the time to clear up any eye infections that his younger
sisters and brother had, in Guyana, in the 1920's.
I myself, as a paediatrician, have been using it for minor neonatal
conjuntivitis for the last 20 years. Never had a complication and the eye
infection clears nine out of ten times. Have not done any placebo, double
blind, aetiological etc. etc. studies.
In the last three years I have started using EBM for minor chronic nasal
congestion in infants and the results are almost the same. Have also used
it successfully a couple of times for diaper rash with moms who objected to
steroid creams etc.
