Bless this family! Perhaps an experienced mother could be found who
could "mentor" this mother. Even if she only breastfed her baby and
calmly nurtured her baby, the dev. delayed mother would be able to
absorb soooo much just by observing. Modeling positive behavior is
better than one thousand words. The dev. delayed mother would probably
benefit from having another mother of multiples come and visit her with
no "strings attached." (i.e. NOT a social worker, HCP, etc.) A
friendship could develop which could have long-term benefits for
everyone involved. Ask the hospital's Volunteer Coordinator, or child
birth instructors, or mother-support groups for an experienced mother in
your area who would like to become this woman's "mentor." Good luck!
