A relative of one of our staff members was told to stop bf by her
pediatrician. The reason, according to the pediatrician? She's a woman
who produces low fat breast milk. You either produce high fat or low fat
breast milk and there's nothing you can do about it - it's genetic.
Infants of mothers who produce high fat breast milk grow quickly, have
better temperament, and sleep for longer periods. Infants of mothers who
produce low fat breast milk are thinner, restless, and don't sleep well,
waking frequently throughout the night. I don't know this mom's history
other than that she was apparently having no problems bf and this may
have been based on the baby's growth, or lack thereof.
