Does anyone have any proof that Purelan-100 or Lansinoh are better and
purer than anhydrous lanolin that is sold for other pharmaceutical
purposes? I just had an (ahem) altercation with a pharmacist who is
furious that the baby store sells Purelan for the equivalent of 5$ a
tube when he is selling pure anhydrous lanolin for next to nothing. I
can't find any proof that it is better, and he is threatening to go
public with a scandal if I can't prove that these products are better.
He went and bought a tube of Purelan and tried to show me that it was
the same…….it did look the same. He asked me to smell them, and I felt
that the regular lanolin smelled like Vasoline, while the Purelan had no
smell. He did a blind test on me and I recognized the regular lanolin
in a minute. He then apologized for being so obnoxious.
He claims that the British Pharmacopia has ok'd that stuff for use on
nipples, while there is no permission from our health ministry on
PUrelan ( only because the importer has not done the paperwork). I have
had moms with terrible allergic reactions from regular lanolin, which is
being sold everywhere to moms with sore nipples. I need proof for this
person who is so sure he is right.
Could regular lanolin be ok? If not, why not? Have we been bought by
Medela and Lansinoh to push an expensive product which is the same as
regular lanolin? Weren't there impurities found in Purelan also?
If you have any references on this to give to this guy, I would
appreciate it.
