It has been my understanding that a baby...yes, will pee without food b/c of excess fluid but not poop. Pooping in those early days is a sign that baby is transfering milk. I am fighting with nursing staff about this. Am I wrong? Staff want to supplement if baby doesn't eat for at least 20 minutes. A few sucks on day one just arn't enough and they want to intervene. When I see a baby who sucks a few times several times in the first day and has numerous stools I'm assuring everyone that baby is doing well.

How do I assure nursing staff if not by the stooling patterns. I see too many baby's that are doing fine with short frequent feeds and would hate to have supplementation done for no reason.
