Nope it doesn't surprise me. When you consider how many women are ripped and
cut during deliveries unnecessarily bc of poor perineal preparations/support
b4 labor and during birthing, not to mention harder than it has to be
positions, it doesn't surprise me that there are some really icky looking
babies handed up to mothers.

On top of that we've got a society, in the US at least, of women who find it
hard to even touch themselves -- the ONE brand of applicator-less tampon
just came out with an applicator version due, in part I'm sure, to our
"aversion" to touching ourselves, much less our blood.... EEEEEEKKKKK!

My sons were born at home and with both (15.5 and 14 inch heads) I had nary
a stretch tear -- yes they had vernix on them, but vernix is a lot less icky
looking and feeling than blood, to the average onlooker... The midwife used
warm towels and blankets to gently wipe any excesses off during her
assessment -- Maybe another L&D skill should be infant massage, instead of
surgical scrub?!

Both my kids HATED baths as newbies -- unless it was the calm me down soak
in a warm tub with mommy colic remedy bath -- I once left a houseful of 4th
of July guests for the colic tub, didn't go over big with some of them, but
jeeze folks, you want me to bath them and then get mad when I do.... sheeeesh!
