I, along with two of my colleagues have just begun an
LC program at the hospital where we are employed. We
are all acting in the LC role as well as continuing in
our regular positions. Due to this, it is difficult
for me to visit all of the BF moms during a nursing to
evaluate for any problems with position or latch or
any other problems mom or baby might be having. My
question is: do I need to view at least one bf before
d/c for each of our mom's or do I depend on the nurses
taking care of these moms to report any problems. I do
see each bf mom but it is difficult to be there when
they are nursing since all nurse at different times
and I am trying to see them in between taking care of
my assignment on L&D. How do other hospital based LC's
handle this? Any suggestions would be greatly
appreciated. Thanks, J Rutherford RN L&D, LC Womens'
Health Center TRMC Charleston, SC
