I would like to see more on Catherine Watson Genna's comments on helping
mothers and babies learn to nurse... I am thinking of those infants who for
one reason or another just don't get it... I've had a hard week with this.
Four mother infant pairs who are just struggling to get baby back to
breastfeeding.  One mother had a little 36 week infant who got very jaundice
and lost weight etc. Mother had to feed the infant expressed milk via
bottle.. (We do try all the other standard interventions) another with small
infant and mom has large nipples, again lost over a pound.. she's feeding
baby now via bottle after his refusal to even try nursing.  A few other
mothers with similar problems.. We did try all the standard interventions to
aide latch suckle etc.  we have worked on plans for getting back to breast
but... any wisdom would be helpful.  What works, what mental steps do you
take...  My main focus is to just keep contact and encourage more breast
time.
