So many rants & so little time!!!!
1st the NICU nurse tells us that we have no place to store breast milk because
we only have 1 refrigerator & that is being used to store caffeine. My reply-
we can get more drugs from the pharmacy & breast milk is just as important as
caffeine. Next-get a refrigerator to store breast milk!! These babies need
moms' milk.

2nd the NICU nurse says that mom is probably only getting a few drops & she
can throw it out. Besides, the baby is having resp. distress & probably won't
eat for a few days. We can only store milk in refrigerator for 48 hours. My
reply-We never throw out mom's milk. Every drop is precious! Mom's family can
take the milk home & freeze it.

3nd the NICU nurse says that mom states she doesn't want her baby to have
bottles. They HAVE to have a trial of 1-2 bottles before going to breast.
That's the way the neonatologists want it. My reply-haven't you read any of
Paula Meier's research on preemies & feedings? Her reply-not in the last 30
days!!! Really????

Why is it that some people get so territorial that they can't open their minds
& let new information in? What can be done to educate these people? Why do
they act as though breastfeeding advocates are the enemy? What can I do to
keep my blood pressure normal when dealing with these situations?

I like the recent reply on Lactnet of "I'll show you mine (research) if you
show me yours." We are all working on the same side. We are not enemies. We
all want what is best for babies.

Thanks for letting me get this off my chest.
