Dear All,

I'm still battling with my local hospital because of the bf 'unfriendly'
policies. I've decided to take an indirect route by giving future parents
information about rooming-in / bf etc so that they can make their own
choices and stand up for their own rights. I feel this is going to have
more of an impact than me rattling at 'them'.
Very gradually word is filtering back about how the system operates and it
has now come to my attention on more than several occasions that mothers in
this hospital are 'persuaded' to let their babies go to the nursery at night
and those who do not 'comply' immediately are offered (persuaded?) a
sleeping pill! Can you believe it, talk about inethical practices (in my
mind anyway).

I must admit, I was also offered a sleeping pill there when in their with my
third. I refused of course, I mean, how could I run the risk of sleeping
with my baby after taking a sleeping pill! This is what I told them, to get
it into their heads that at least my baby was spending the night with her
mother. I used to think that I had been sorted out for special treatment
because of my 'bad' attitude. But it seems I wasn't, it's routine. And what
makes this practice worse is that the staff are 'all so pleasant and nice'
as they try to talk you around.

On a good note, I've talked to several mothers, who have spent nights there,
who did keep their babies by them. These were mothers from my bf course who
had been received the 'attitude' and stood up for their rights.

I'm interested to know what you all think, I see a red 'ethics' flag waving
infront of me.
