Hi
I just wanted to agree wholeheartedly with Penny
about nursing vs. breastfeeding.
I still think that using the word "feed" anywhere
in the description of the process encourages people to
consider the two methods, breast or bottle, as interchangeable.
Part of our job is to change this mindset and perhaps the
appropriate word is vital. Most of us have learned that
diapers = nappies, cot = crib and (a new one for me)
soother = pacifier ( I did get it right, didn't I?)
Without denigrating the many English speakers who don't have
the same usages, perhaps Americans should work on
popularizing the word that encompases all of the
different things that "nursing" does. It isn't
the same as breastfeeding for me at all.
