Hello,
Not quite breastfeeding related - however I mentioned to the
charge nurse of the PP Floor that I saw an ariticle recently that
compared infant warming skin to skin with mother vs on a warmer I
think (Ohio's - we used to call them in NICU - cause that's who made them).
I thought I saw it while doing a search on the Pediatrics Site. But
for the past 2 days my computer locks when I try to do a search
there. Of course the charge nurse would love a copy. Does this study
sound familiar to anyone? Of course it is too bad common sense
doesn't prevail in this issue but always need to back up any change
in practice with research. Trying to stop all the warmed blankets,
many layers of blankets and hats and tight swaddling in cribs that is
the practice here. Which I explained gives nonverbal communication
to mothers that this is routine care for newborns. Our Canadian
guidelines for reducing SIDS states avoiding overheating and we are
giving out another message. In addition it would be nice to tell
mother something else she can do for her baby (gets them together in
bed!)
Hope you can see the request in this long note - please e-mail me
privately or to the list. Thanks
