Hi to all,
I was standing in the hall of the elementary school all of my girls attended
waiting for my youngest -- then shortly to 'graduate' to middle school. A
teacher who had had all of them stopped by to chat. She asked me what my
"secret" was, as all three had been known as polite, nice, and good
students. I told her that my secret was that I nursed them all til they
went to kindergarten and slept with them all. I thought I was going to have
to pick her bottom jaw up off the floor for her. :) I bet THAT remark
circulated in the teacher's lounge.

I agree with Kathy D. that we have to talk about this, and I do all the time
to clients, doctors, etc. I also think that we have an obligation to do
something else. When I have a powerful woman in my office (an executive or
someone high up in a company, or a woman who is assertive and not afraid to
represent her baby's needs to employers or family or whatever) I always
suggest to her that she consider all the woman she may be able to assist in
her workplace by speaking up for things that other women may not be able to
ask for. Its surprising how this idea takes hold. It was useful when time
came to ask for women to testify before the Texas legislature when we passed
our bfg bill. It was very helpful for the committee members to have some of
these powerful women show up to say: Look, we don't intend to put up with
being harrassed by some Mall security guard for nursing, or to sit on some
toilet if our baby wants to nurse.

So don't forget to always educate on the politics of bfg as we also support
and assist.
Barbara
