Anyone or any legal entity can purchase books from a publisher and
distribute the books in any way they want. This does not mean that the
author of the book had ANYTHING to say about, or any association with the
purchaser of the books whatsoever.

If a formula company has indeed purchased copies "Medications and Mothers
Milk" from Pharmasoft Medical Publishing, it's not a new strategy. In the
past, Ross Laboratories purchased many copies of "Breastfeeding, a Guide for
the Medical Profession" and the AAP's book for mothers on breastfeeding (and
probably other texts as well) which they then gave away to physicians. (The
Ross logo that was permitted to be placed on a print run of the AAP Guide
for Mothers is a variation of this theme). Dr. Lawrence and the authors of
the AAP guide were (rightly) outraged.

This marketing strategy - "innocence by association" - is very effective for
the formula companies. However, there is nothing that an author or publisher
can do to prevent "certain" entities from purchasing books and distributing
them in any legal manner as they see fit. Do NOT assume that the authors of
books distributed in such a manner support this marketing strategy.
