If abm is purchased at retail prices, it can be quite an expense.  If it
is put on the hospital formulary, like medications, it can be much less
expensive because hospitals routinely seek bids for their pharmaceutical
suppliers, and buy from the company that gives the best price.
Hospitals who have done this with abm have found that their true cost is
far below what the reps told them it would be.  And once the hospital is
paying for abm, it can pass along the cost to users, thereby recouping
it.
