Mmm... I can't quite see how this follows. Are you suggesting breastfed
and well-nurtured babies will grow into adults who can afford to pay for
better nursing homes? I know my breastfed babies will be more
intelligent and therefore have a (statistically) better chance of
getting a good job, but I also have the feeling they may not be as
compliant as most employers would like. I was always struck by the fact
that formula-fed babies would make better workers on the line, since
they wouldn't expect breaks... I think my kids will be better off
working free-lance, like their mother!

Just a bit of levity. I was actually a little taken aback by the
assumption that "day care centres" for the aged, or nursing homes are
not providing adequate care. For families who have struggled to care for
an aging parent and decided that the care and facilities in a nursing
home were a better option for the parent, this could be a bit hurtful.

You're right about the rest, though. I use the analogy of a married
couple often to explain to parents that a need for comfort is as hard to
put off as a need for food, especially when you have grown to trust
someone's ability to comfort you. I tell them that if their babies
didn't care so much about them and didn't know they could count on them,
they wouldn't bother "asking" for nurturing.
