I have read with interest all of the well-thought-out posts on the issue of
expanding the credentialing of those who work with lactating women. There
are some very broad-thinking and articulate people on Lactnet.

After reading of the effects of other levels of credentialing, below is a
short summary of my reflections, certainly not as well-worded as those who
put much time and thought into their posts.

The respect and value of the IBCLC credential is equal to the respect and
value of breastfeeding in the medical community. Hospitals and insurance
companies are not going to place breastfeeding at a higher priority than
does the American Academy of Pediatrics (as a whole, mind you) and most of
their members.
