The Board of Directors of the IBLCE is considering the development of an
"advanced practice" certification for IBCLCs of 10 or more years of experience.
In order to survey IBCLC interest, we have posted a short questionnaire on our
website, www.iblce.org. I encourage all the IBCLC readers of LACTNET (whether
you're a 10 year recertificant, about to become one, or will become one 10
years from today!) The questionnaire can be submitted by email (direct from our
website), or printed and faxed or mailed.

In addition to seeking your views on an advanced practice credential, the
Board also would like to know your thoughts on credential that would require
fewer practice hours and/or different qualifications, designed primarily for the
"breastfeeding counselor" and "breastfeeding educator "market, for example WIC
peer counselors and employees. This question is also on the online survey.

These are important issues that will affect the growth and widespread
acknowlegment of our profession. Please voice your opinions, even if you would not
like to pursue this possible option. It is only through the response of our
certified IBCLCs that the Board can make and informed decision.

Finally, if you have colleagues who are NOT on LACTNET, please encourage them
to visit our website and participate. We'd like to hear from all 13,000
IBCLCs out there! (really!)

Barbara M. Ash, MA IBCLC, RLC
Assistant Executive Director
IBLCE
