Dear Barb, when I did home health nursing in early nineties I saw baby in
2nd 48 hours and again 2 days later (4 days old).
I quickly learned to expect slight weight decrease on day 2, back to birth
weightor gaining on 4 day vss.  If that wasn't the picture something was
usually going on with baby/mom/breastfeeding that needed tweaking.  Now
that's not a scientific study, but my personal experience.  This hospital
was very in to early discharge and adequate follow up in the home.
