Dear all
I thought I would speak to the issue of Bounty bags in Australia as I and
ALCA were heavily involved in their decision to go breastfeeding friendly
and WHO Code compliant in April this year. The company has committed to the
Code and ALCA monitors all of their bags and publications. It has been quite
a long journey to get to this point and the company has forgone considerable
advertising income to reach it - however the are determined and committed to
getting it right. They are also putting considerable pressure on companies
who want to advertise to do it appropriately or they simply will not accept
the advertisement.
It has been my experience that most women actually like the bags and if this
is true then to me it is a better option to actually ensure that what is in
them is compliant at the very least and provides women with community
resource contacts and factual information about infant safety, breastfeeding
etc - something which Bounty Australia does.
I wish you all a very happy holiday
