Dear Lactnetters: I rejoined the group recently because I missed all
the information I received. As others have said,it can be overwhelming
to read every day. The amount of education and resources available is
incredible. I have looked at some web pages and resources and am amazed
at how much is available to us. I have been an IBCLC since 1991 when I
met a professor at grad school who was one. I have been my hospital's bf
advocate for 18 years( by fanatacism), officially the Lactation
Coordinator since 1991, in addition to other duties as an ob-gyn nurse.
I teach parenting and childbirth classes, college nursing courses, and
will be starting a postpartum group soon (tried once but I didn't get it
going to well-see there is info on the net recently). My 3 children are
22, 18, and 10 and bf between 2 1/2 and 4 1/2 years each, including
tandem nursing the older 2, worked and pumped the last guy, nursed
through yeast, nursing strike, illness, etc. Thoroughly enjoyed the
whole experience, and why I keep promoting and teaching. There are so
many myths and misinformation that surface year after year. Anyway, I
just want to say hello and thanks to all who provide their time and
expertise in cyberspace, and are connected in this common goal of
preserving bf in our society and for future generations. By the way, I
saw an article in Newsweek last year that says one of the most promising
professions to be in is Lacatation Consultant. For most of us the
riches is in helping each mother we touch, but it would be nice to make
a decent living at this! Ellen Mahony, RN,MS,ACCE,IBCLC
