If your hospital charges for LC consultations (& supplies?) then they must
be getting reimbursed by the insurance companies. Is this right?
Have you followed up to find out which companies reimburse? mostly private?
any Medicaid ins co's?
Our hospital is a 'county' hospital. The suggestion of reimbursement
results in a resounding impolite snort. LC services are considered part of
the Capitated amount paid by the Medicaid provider (in Ariz, Medicaid is
called AHCCCS). We have very few patients covered by non-Medicaid providers.
We'd love to learn how hospitals negotiate payments for LC services.

Our hospital is relooking at the current amount we charge and would like
some comparisons. Does anyone charge more for an initial visit, less for
subsequent ones? Sorta like at the MD office...the first visit (new
patient/new problem) is usually a higher office charge than the follow up
visits (also usually less time involved too, which may not be the case with
a lactation visit, I realize). Thanks and please email me privately..Lucy
