When I have a client who has been given incorrect advice by her baby's
care provider, I handle it this way:
"I'm curious about so-and-so's advice. In my training as
fill-in-the-blank, we learned that breastmilk is the best treatment for
jaundice because the baby clears the bilirubin out through pooping.
Babies fed formula have fewer poops in these early days."

At this point the moms are relieved to hear that their instincts have
been validated and if they wish to look into it themselves I can provide
parent-level resources.

I don't actually them that what their doctor said is horse manure, nor
do I tell them to get rid of the formula. They decide that on their
own.
