I think you have done all you can in this situation.
You have spoken to the physician in an attempt to
educate and enlighten; most importantly, you have
provided the mother with information on the proposed
course of treatment.

**You have done a good job!**  You have given the
mother some tools to assist her in making her own
decision.  The course she takes from here is entirely
up to her.

Hang in there.  Take some deep breaths.  Know you have
my support in your course of action with this mom.
