Sorry, I don't know about the reflux and sudden pain on waking but wanted to
comment on the blood in the stool. I was helping a mother with similar
circumstances. Legumes in general & esp.. peanuts eaten by the mom caused a
reaction of blood in the baby's stool. And, she was still exploring what
else might do the same while keeping a food diary. Some babies' guts just
seem incredibly delicate. I still wonder if this susceptibility is because
mothers' guts were damaged by not being totally breastfed or if they have
allergies or food sensitivites we're not aware of that keep irritating their
guts to let these substances through & into the milk.

Barbara, I was at the Texas Area LLL cf a few yrs ago (When it was supposed
to be the next LLLI cf) , heard a few of your sessions <applause, well done,
much appreciated - I talk about introverted/extroverted babies &
integration/disintegration all the time> and remember going to Goldman's
session where he expressed the opinion that these reactions in breastfed kids
to foods moms had eaten were rare and, of course, most mothers in the room
didn't feel that way. He thought that perhaps that because the women with
problems would be looking for help, LLL and LCs would end up seeing more of
them so that it would seem as though they were a larger portion of the
breastfeeding population at large.

I'm very curious about what folks will have to say about the reflux. Many
docs are dx reflux in breastfed kids who vomit up a whole undigested
breastfeeding even though the infant appears to be thriving.
