I have permission to post the following:

I work w/ a physician who recently had triplets at 26wks. She approached me
the other day with a question and I didn't have a definate answer, so I
thought I would try here.
She is beginning to nuzzle her sons and asked about the transfer of any
pathogens from each of the boys - using her skin as a conduit. The question
was regarding cleansing of the breast in between nuzzling sessions. She
isn't concerned as much of her own flora - but any thing left from the babies.
I know we would not recommend anything in a term baby; but I felt the
validity of her concern. She asked about a soap and water wash; I discussed
the downside being stripping of own oils and flora - predisposing to more
problems. I mentioned if anything - perhaps a sterile saline wash. She
thought she might try this - "if only for my own sanity." (her response :) )
Has anyone encountered this? Particularly, is anyone aware of any evidence
based information?
Thank You.
