We don't generally think of food as something we need informed consent
for.

That's true but formula is made by pharmaceutical companies (at least
some formula is) and if you look at the history of formula has
certainly been considered more medicine (replacement for real food)
than food in the past. I guess there is a fine line there in the way we
as a society think about it. It used to be prescribed but is now
available over the counter.
Seems to me that developing informed consent forms for giving babies
formula is a good strategy. It keeps in front of medical personnel and
parents what formula is and that it is not the same as bf only
different. BF is the default and formula requires informed consent like
other interventions and procedures. However, for the same reason, it
will be very difficult to implement. Kudos to those who have done so or
are in process in their hospitals. Any suggestions on how to accomplish
it will be most appreciate, I am sure.
