When I used to work with teen moms thru the health dept. I spent a
significant amount of my workday in the middle and high schools meeting with
my pregnant clients, their teachers, guidance counselors, and the school
nurse. This young woman should talk to the school nurse about appropriate
places to pump while she is at school. Depending on the layout of the "Nurses'
Office", there may be a private area she can use for her pumping needs. There
should also be no problems with the mother being able to keep her EBM in the
nurses' office fridge for the school day. It would be well worth it for you to
contact the school and talk with the staff on this teen mom's behalf.
The large high school in the largest city in the county had the ideal set-up.
The girls brought their babies with them to school every day. Day care was
provided during the student's time in class, but the student was expected to
go to the day care area between classes, during lunch, and during study halls
to care for her baby. It sure made it easy for the nursing moms!
