This topic prompts me to relay the following story.

Last month, I began to encourage my 21-month-old son to nurse sitting
up and facing me, as opposed to my holding the weight of his head in
the crook of my arm. (This switch was suggested by a physical
therapist in response to chronic thoracic back pain.)

In the new position, his hands are free for nipple-tweaking, which I
find annoying. So I began to swish his pinching fingers away with
the gentle reminder, "No, no, Elijah, that BOTHERS mama."

He would then ask, "Bobbers?"

And I would say, "Yes, it BOTHERS me."

So...in the crowded pizzeria last night, while waiting for our meal
to arrive, Elijah suddenly put both hands on my breasts (on the
outside of my blouse) and announced in a very loud voice, "Mama's
big, big bobbers!"

Some people turned and laughed, and some people just froze in mid-bite.

Then, really playing to the crowd, he followed up with "Nice bobbers!
Nice nice bobbers!"

My husband says I am absolutely forbidden from telling this story to
any girl our son eventually dates. (To his great credit, Jeff was
among those laughing loudest.)
