Parents and grandparents, physicians, and the general public (as well as
other formula companies!) will certainly see the formula company logo on
the AAP book as an endorsement.

As a mother once told me, "The hospital would not send formula home with my
baby if it was in any way harmful to him."

The AAP would not allow a company that makes what they view as an
"unhealthful" product to advertise on the cover of their book. This
co-operative project is an obvious endorsement of Ross Labs and their
formula (and any formula). And I assume that the majority of the AAP *does*
hold that formula is a fine product for human infants.

We can't believe it, but in my private practice LC experience, it is clear
that the pediatricians who truly support (with education and practice)
breastfeeding are a small minority.

So this collaboration is just stating openly what most of the AAP accepts
anyway and not just a lucrative financial decision. I sympathize with the
members of the organization who are deeply aggrieved.

I virtually cancels the impact of the 1997 guidelines. As many have stated,
"They just don't get it!"

The real surprise was the guidelines which, of course, were grossly ignored
by most of the membership.
