Brick-dust urine (urate crystals) is normal the first 2-3 days after
birth. Those formed in the urinary tract before birth and have to be
eliminated. If they continue to form ( I tell parents from day 4 and
beyond) this leads us to believe the baby is lacking in fluid and on the
dehydration path. Weight loss is usually continuing, meconium stools are
continuing and the baby is beginning to look "parched". Feed the baby.
