I think it was Katherine who posted that celiac disease may be underlying chronic anemia. The other thing to consider is that iron pills are generally poorly absorbed and other forms of iron are much better overall, such as liquid chloryphyll or Floredex herbal + iron. I have seen (and experienced) very rapid improvement with these sources. I personally have always been somewhat anemic--sometimes very anemic--and while genetics plays a role,  I also have celiac disease. As Katherine said, a ferritin level is a good clue.
