In our experience with breastfeeding moms and allergic children peanuts are
amongst the very allergenic nutrients.
Avoiding the exposure (both direct and indirect via breastfeeding) in infancy
and for some children into toddlerhood to nutrients were family members have
allergic reactions to have shown the best results either in avoiding early onset
of allergies or giving the child the chance to ''overgrow'' the oversensibility.
As for peamuts: I once saw an infant develop a rash all over the lower half of
the face. Mom made a peanutbutter-sandwich for a sibbling and just ate the last
crumb of bread which had a very small smear of peanutbutter left on it. Some
minutes after that she kissed the baby and the rash came up within minutes.
If the baby is allergic to peanuts, there is a good chance (well for the child
it is bad chance:-) ), that he will also have troubles with soy and other
beans. Peanuts belong to the bean-family rather than the nuts-family of plants.
