I do like the clutch hold. I find it easier to have the baby latch if mom is
having trouble, and I find it easier to latch a sleepy baby if staff are
getting the bottles out, worried baby needs a feeding. AAARRRGGGHHH. I
usually do not raise the bed, b/c then I forget to lower it again and do not
want the mom to be hurt next she gets out of bed. I have been having big
time back troubles and have not equated it w/ bf helping. DUH! I thought it
was just b/c I am getting older. :)
I agree it is important to show all 3 major feeding holds. I encourage the
moms to call me and next feeding I will show you the sidelying position,
etc. Then by the time they go home, they have an idea of using them all.
However, if mom is having any difficulty and wants to take the LC home, find
a position that works and stick w/ it for now. They can come in to see me in
my office later to learn the other holds.
