Dear Jay and friends,
You are so right in this (and ther est of your post!). I experienced the same and I think many re-takers will as well or even score lower the second time around. Getting more experienced and learning the nuances and what-ifs and but-suppose-thats will make one going into a silent debate with the test and that might very well result in scoring much lower than would be expected from work experience.
I sat for my 10 year renewal in '02 and had far lower scores than many/most of my students while both they and I were convinced that my level of knowledge and skills were far higher. And I expect/fear a possible even lower result when sitting in '12 again.

Tests like these can only test knowledge
and that is only such a small part of being a lactation consutant. I hate to admit that I do know lots of IBCLCs who passed exams with great percentages and still are sublevel practitioners. They somehow seem to know the theory but just don't get ''it''. (pointing back as well to a post from Lydia de Raad earlier this week).

Karin, you just go for it girl, you and I know you belong to the top-level LC's in our country and you'll just have to hang in there.

For all examinees: go in with you're head up, take a deep breath and just imagine you're sitting with a bunch of moms and children and you'll do fine. Have a very good day and go for it.

Warmly,

Gonneke IBCLC, retired LLLL, MOM cheering in southern Netherlands
