Hi everybody, Its been so long since I posted that I should give a short
re-introduction. I'm an LLL leader in England with three children, aged
19, 16 and 23. I'm a transplanted American with an English husband,
Paul. I've been supporting breastfeeding mothers for 11 years.

Some time ago I was asked to speak to about 90 health visitors at their
annual seminar. I was asked early because if I wasn't able to speak they
were going to apply to the baby milk companies for sponsership. Talk
about pressure! Anyway, I was able to agree, so the formula companies
stayed away.

Yesterday was the day. Breastfeeding was only one of the topics covered,
most were only given 15 minutes, but I was given an hour. I talked about
the risks of formula feeding, breastfeeding myths, cluster feeding, and
answered questions. After an hour my time was up and I spent the whole
tea break speaking to individuals. The last speaker of the day was
unable to be there. Instead of finishing early, I was asked if I would
be willing to continue for another half hour (and nobody left!)

Here is the best bit. At the end of the day one of the health visitors
came to me, thanked me for speaking and said,"I am going to change my
practice because of your talk."

I still feel thrilled at the response I got and heartened that this time
I really made a difference.
