Dear Lactnet Friends:

LjBerkeley asks about an uptick in LARC, long acting reversible
contraception.

Yes, because Federal Funding will pay for it, and we can't have "those
women" getting pregnant too soon.

In my region, there is a discrepancy between who is pressured to get LARC
before hospital discharge and who isn't. White women with private insurance
are allowed to leave the hospital being unsure about what contraception
they will use. Women of color or teens or those receiving medical
assistance are pressured into LARC.

There is no real counseling or discussion about this.

Alison Stuebe MD has estimated that 1% of mothers will have challenges to
lactogenesis II as a result.

Please report all situations where diminished milk supply and hormonal
birth control are factors to <https://uslca.org/contraception-low-milk>

warmly,
