There has been more than one type of copper IUD. Currently used ones
around the world include Paragard, Gynefix, Multiload, Nova-T, etc. In
Australia the Multiload and Copper-T are in current use.

I'd be curious to read peer-reviewed articles about symptomatic copper
toxicity in otherwise healthy women that have been confirmed to be
caused by copper IUDs, if anyone has citations. What I can find in
reputable sources is data like this:

that there was no alteration in these levels after a period of 12 months
of continuous IUD use. We therefore conclude that the copper
incorporated into multiload IUDs appears not to influence the
concentration of serum copper of users. [...]"
