Thought I'd share some of my own experience. My first was born in a
free-standing birthing center in California. As soon as she was born,
Gabbie was put on my stomach while one of the nurses covered us with a
hot towel fresh out of the dryer. We were basically left alone.
Temperature for the baby was taken under her arm. It was probably a
couple of hours before they rolled the scale into my room to check
weight, etc. All this done next to my bed---which btw was a regular
queen size not those awful hospital ones. With all this, it doesn't
seem like my daughter nursed right away--sorry for the fuzziness it's
been 7 years.

Until I learned to trust my instincts, I was doing the timed feeds on
each side. We finally fell into one-sided feedings, which continued with
my next two babies. This has not been a problem for us.

I wanted to share with you what my son said to me today. He asked me
where his younger sister was, and I told him she was asleep. He asked
who put her to sleep. I said I did---to which he replied---your milk did
the trick.

Aloha,
