Since it is County Fair season for many of us, I would like to share an idea
for those of you who may be interested.

Our local hospital's Breastfeeding Center, La Leche League and WIC offices
last year sponsored a "Nursing Mother's Rest Stop" at the county fair. This
is an excellent way to promote breastfeeding in your community. We had our
booth staffed the entire fair, and were able to get volunteers to "man" the
booth every day for four days. WE are about to embark on the adventure again
this year, becuase the county called US this time to do it again - evidently
they had a lot of positive feedback from moms in the community!!!

This is also a great outreach activity for WIC and LLL. Our booth was
complete with much free reading info (mostly LLL and WIC materials), bumper
stickers saying "Breastfed is Bestfed", a changing table and two rockers to
nurse in, under a shaded canopy.

Incidently, we had some controversy over whether the rocking chairs should
have screens around them for "private nursing". Some volunteers thought this
sent out a message that breastfeeding is shameful and should be hidden.
Others thought it was necessary for those mothers who are more sensitive to
nursing in public. What do you think?

If you'd like more info on a breastfeeding booth, please feel free to E-mail
me!
