I am probably the only confused about this, and please forgive me -- I'm
confused a lot these days. If  (according to the mom) the doctor said
they wouldn't start worrying until the bili was 20, what were you
supposedly contradicting? Or was it another pediatrician who was really
contradicting the MD?
What I don't feel confused about is that (if you used the words you did
in your post) then you made a clear, evidence-based statement about
something within your expertise, in respectful language.
