Barbara,

I too have witnessed what appears as the wearing of gloves for the
protection of the HCP not the patient.

When my father was in the hospital relying on everyone to take care
of him because he was on a trach and paralyzed on the left side and had no
control of his right, a nurse came in to test his blood sugar. She put on
her gloves, pricked his finger and could not find the glucose testing
monitor.

She lifted the blanket, searched around, checked the bed of the man
across from dad (who had pseudomonas, which dad ended up with), went into
the hall looking through the reporting table and charts, then into another
room (I watched from the hall) went to the next room and emerged with the
monitor.

She then walked back into dad's room lifted his hand and I had to ask her
if she would please change her gloves! I couldn't believe how many things
she touched and then went right back to dad, carrying all of those germs
to him.

He did pass away but was constantly battling MRSA's and became septic
in the end.

I guess when some work with so many contagious people they forget
that the gloves are to work both ways.

Cheryl
