'Started solid at 6 months. Gained 3 1/2 inches since 6 months! Ped said
baby is in the 6th percentile for wt. and mom needs to start ABM
immediately!
Also told to "pump and dump" formilk and nurse for hindmilk. Any
comments?'

I'll say! Jennifer, I second all your comments and then some.
This baby has put on 5 ounces while still managing to grow 3 1/2 inches in
two months. (about 150 grams and over 8 cm for the Englishly challenged
amongst us), becoming a light-for-length individual.
Pump and dump?! Why aren't solids suspected as a cause of slow weight gain?
;-) Growth seems to have been acceptable to pediatrician until they were
started, no?
If the baby had been too heavy for his length, would this pediatrician
suggest having him sleep in traction to make the ht:wt ratio fit the charts
better?
