Hi all

I have recently been working with a Dr who has started to do sodium levels on all babies that require other blood work, and if any sodium level is above 145 (the lab value for high) she admits and starts intravenous therapy. I was wondering if anyone has information about normal sodium levels of the neonate in the first week. This practice seems a bit extreme and I am looking for evidence to help educate her. (I personally feel that the 145 threshold is low, mainly because every baby she has done blood work on has had an IV started... it seems to me we might be getting normal values and over reacting)

Thanks for any help and advice,
Sonya
