FYI

Ross Products has just issued a recall for Similac Special Care 24 Cal/fl. oz. premature formula with iron because certain lots are deficient in iron. Babies who have been using the recalled product for more than 2 weeks need to be assessed for iron deficiency and may need a separate iron supplement. This formula is used both in-hospital and after discharge. Mothers whose babies have been discharged have no way of knowing if their preterm infant has been receiving a deficient product unless a health care provider checks on each discharged patient. Lactnetters working in NICUs or with preterm babies in the community may wish to check with mothers to see if they are using the recalled product.
