More clarification on this topic.

I pointed out to my friends at the state office that breast milk is not
mentioned in this document:

"You are right. The meal pattern could be more clear. Here is the infant
feeding policy memo. I cut and paste Question 9 from the Q & A.

https://fns-prod.azureedge.net/sites/default/files/cacfp/CACFP06-2017os.pdf

9. If a mother breastfeeds her 13 month old, or older, child at the center
or day care home, is the meal reimbursable?

Yes. Breastmilk is an allowable substitute for fluid milk for children of
any age. Therefore, if a mother chooses to breastfeed her infant past 1 year
of age she may breastfeed the child on-site or provide expressed breastmilk
and the center or day care home may claim reimbursement for those meals."

I highly recommend that we all keep that document handy. It addresses other
questions related to breastfeeding and breast milk. This will be a repeated
question, I am sure. It comes up about every 3 years in my experience.
Note that the real issue is "will we be reimbursed if we give breast milk".
This was the original issue that has been clarified repeatedly, because it
was a "disincentive" to give breastfed babies breast milk vs. formula.

It is a tiny amount of money that they get for feeding the babies and
children, but to day care centers it means a lot! The requirements of the
quality of food has also been spelled out in minute detail due to the
problems of centers choosing the cheapest, and not necessarily the most
nutritious food. Breast milk was not even addressed at first - but thanks
to some great work by many dietitians in different parts of the country, it
has been increasingly addressed and clarified.

So much great work is being done for breastfeeding by people who never are
recognized or seek it! We have a lot of friends we don't even know about -
in government offices (local, state, national) and businesses and stores as
well as hospitals and clinics.
