Okay---a woman called who is having a PET scan tomorrow looking for
recurrence of thyroid cancer, using fludeoxyglucose-18. Read to her from
Hale, which recommends pump/dump for 12-24 hours, and keep emptying breasts
to decrease concentration of radioactive material in her breasts. She is
wondering about the pump parts...is it "safe" to just rinse them after each
use and have them lying around? And when she is done with them, should she
take them somewhere special to be discarded?? I have no idea! It would seem
that if she is ok to nurse in 24 hours, that the flanges/bottles would be
okay in 24 hours as well, but she is worried because when she had I-131 they
spilled a little (milk?) on her bra, and they kept it quarantined at the
hospital somewhere for a YEAR?! Does anyone know the answer to this one?

TIA-
