Well, finally I get to partake of the Lactnet! Many of you have made clever
observations about the irony of my not having internet access when I work at
the Massachusetts Institute of Technology...but NO MORE! I bought myself a
"big rig" and I am now on the highway leading from MIT--albeit from my home
desk.

My name is Margery Wilson. I live in Cambridge, Massachusetts and have two
daughters: one in college studying management and learning to fly
airplanes, the other in second grade. Both were breastfed well into their
second year. During the time my oldest was young I had a small herd of
dairy goats and I learned much from the "ladies". I keep a photo of a mother
goat and her twin babies on my office wall. I find it helps to draw useful
observations for new parents, and makes everyone laugh as well.

I work as a lactation consultant in the medical department at MIT (HMO),
where I direct the MIT Breastfeeding Support Program. Over the past seven
years we have grown from a once-a-month Nursing Mothers' Group meeting to a
comprehensive program. We offer prenatal classes, return to
employment/school workshops, the aforementioned Nursing Moms' group and a
Colic/Crying group. I see patients individually in my lactation clinic at
the Medical Department. We have a low-cost breastpump rental program (cost
is underwritten by the HMO) that has increased the percentage of babies who
continue breastfeeding after their mom's return to employment/school. Last
year MIT opened its first Nursing Mothers' Room, warmly furnished and with a
hospital-grade pump donated by generous benefactors.

My other hat is as the Region I (New England) representative for the
International Lactation Consultant Association. Now all of you Yankees can
keep in touch with me without resorting to snail mail! Please, let me know
if I can be of assistance to you.

Thanks to all of you for the time and energy you give to this net. What a
precious resource!
