Still catching up via the archives... I don't think I've come across the
first post in this thread, but want to second Laura Walker's remarks about
taking capillary blood tests during BF.  Barb notes that higher BP
associated with stress will make a venous blood draw go faster.  Stress has
the opposite effect when obtaining a capillary sample, due to the
vasoconstrictive effect of cortisol.  I've found that I scarcely need to
warm the baby's foot before sticking them if I do it while they are actively
nursing, because they are so relaxed that their feet are well perfused
already.  Likewise, if the baby is very upset, it doesn't help that their
heel is pre-warmed with a hot pack, they just won't let go of that blood.
