The midwives I work with typically do not repair tears, unless absolutely
necessary. "Keep your legs together" is a frequent mantra, and it works
well. If the tissue is not stressed by stretching, it knits and heals well.

I would think the same would be true for frenotomy. If the tongue and the
cut tissue is held together, like when the baby holds its tongue down with a
bottle, it could heal back together. If the tongue was lifted and cupping
the breast, it could keep the tissues apart.

There was a local doc who used to do frenotomy, but he really did it. Babies
ended up with flapping tongues, and little control. I know of a 19yo kid up
the street who still has speech issues, d/t frenotomy when he was a baby.
Interestingly enough, tongue tie has not been much of an issue here, and
thankfully, clefts have become more unusual, as well.

Best wishes from beautiful SE Ohio!

<<Research is not showing they grow back, but there are stories that they
might heal together again and form scar tissue.
We have seen one case in all the hundreds or thousands that Dr. Coryllos
has done. That does not mean there are not more, but it does show it is
possible, and probably uncommon. I suspect that if the baby keeps bf
often, the tissues will be seperated and have less chance of healing
together.
